Job Description:

Job Summary: Activities provided by the Peer Specialist emphasize the acquisition, development, and expansion of the rehabilitation skills needed to move forward in recovery. Interventions are built on the unique therapeutic relationship between the Peer Specialist, the individual served, and his or her family unit.

Essential Job Functions:

Complete regular communication with referral sources/guardians regarding progress, transition planning, and pertinent clinical issues and documentation.
Participate in staffing to assure continuity of care.
Make or assist in outside referral of issues not able to be addressed within the treatment milieu.
Assist in scheduling of treatment and arranging transportation.
Assist with the intake process by completing initial paperwork as well as explaining the program concept.
Represent the agency in a professional manner.
Ensure or assist in the referral for all medical issues of clients.
Document all services provided in accordance with DMH/ CARF Standards.
Provide crisis intervention as necessary.
Facilitate group education as scheduled.
Obtain trainings to assist in professional development meeting 36 hours every 2 years.
Assist an individual to recover.
Certified Missouri Peer Specialists use the power of peers to support, encourage, and model recovery and resilience from mental illness in ways that are specific to the needs of each individual. A Peer Specialist can assist individuals who have a psychiatric disability to make independent choices and to take a pro-active role in their treatment.
A Peer Specialist should be present for Staffing with clients they will be working with.
Certified Missouri Peer Specialists shall follow the Certified Missouri Peer Specialist Code of Ethics.
Demonstrates interest in long term and short term goals and objectives of the company.
Other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Direct Supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of case management and rehabilitation methods, principles and techniques as they relate to mental health services.
Knowledge of the problems encountered by persons with mental illness and / or substance abuse disorders and how to access the various community resources available.
Knowledge of the methods and modalities as well as the legal requirements and court procedures related to treating mental illnesses and substance use discords.
Some knowledge of training techniques and practices used in a substance use disorders/ mental health setting.
Aptitude to evaluate services within assigned program and give input.
Capable of communicating ideas clearly and effectively verbally and in writing to produce clear and concise reports.

Requirements: Experience and Education Qualifications:

Self identify as a present or former primary client of mental health services.
Have a valid driver’s license.
Be at least 21 years of age.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Pass background check or request an exception to the findings.
Complete a State approved training program and pass a standardized examination.
Have a job commitment from a mental health agency.
