Job Description:

The St. Louis Empowerment Center is a recovery drop-in center for people who have lived experience with behavioral health issues. The Empowerment Center serves to provide a peer-based supportive community that builds hope and encourages healthy behaviors for individuals searching for recovery or maintaining recovery. A program of the St. Louis Empowerment Center, the Recovery Community Center (RCC) provides peer-based recovery support services to individuals with substance use disorders (SUD); specifically, individuals who have lived experience with opioid and/or stimulant use disorders.
• The Peer Support Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for managing the Empowerment Center’s media, marketing, & street outreach efforts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
o Identify & maintain a “portfolio” of contacts (e.g., social service agencies/professionals; treatment centers/professionals; recovery housing organizations; mental health service agencies/providers; etc.)
o Maintain a social media presence (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.)
o Respond to queries by individuals contacting the organization
o Oversee & conduct street outreach to homeless/unstably housed individuals (e.g., distributing hygiene kits, Narcan, informational leaflets about the Empowerment Center, etc.)
o Coordinate with local news outlets (print, digital, radio, etc.) to distribute PSAs and related marketing materials
o Identifying & directing individuals in need of services toward the Empowerment Center
o Increasing our visibility & presence among the recovery community
o 1:1 interaction and assistance with participants at the Center as needed (e.g., resource & referral)
o Collaborations with Peer Specialists on resource and referral possibilities
o Engaging with family members of those who have behavioral health conditions (e.g., recruiting & assisting family members to learn more about behavioral health conditions & what may be most helpful to support them & their loved ones)


Requirements: • Qualifications:
o Hold the CPS or MRSS credential (credential may be obtained after hire); that is:
o Personal lived experience (yourself and/or family) with behavioral health conditions, such as mental health and/or substance use issues
o High school diploma or equivalent
