Job Description:

The Member Care Specialist acts as a behavioral health technician and recovery support. Specialists are representatives of treatment staff and observe all patient and member activity, as well as, maintain a visible presence with the members at the treatment center and at outside activities. The MCS will also circulate throughout the program in order to be available to meet any physical, emotional, or spiritual needs of the members, as well as, to determine the need for additional supports and ensure this information is provided to
counselors, nurses, and therapists.

Requirements: EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 1-year experience in the treatment industry preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Current and valid Missouri Driver License, Class E – Chauffeur’s License, Preferred
CPR/First Aid and CPI Certified preferred, not required
Peer Support Specialist certification and/or CNA certification is desired.

Job Summary: Activities provided by the Peer Specialist emphasize the acquisition, development, and expansion of the rehabilitation skills needed to move forward in recovery. Interventions are built on the unique therapeutic relationship between the Peer Specialist, the individual served, and his or her family unit.

Essential Job Functions:

Complete regular communication with referral sources/guardians regarding progress, transition planning, and pertinent clinical issues and documentation.
Participate in staffing to assure continuity of care.
Make or assist in outside referral of issues not able to be addressed within the treatment milieu.
Assist in scheduling of treatment and arranging transportation.
Assist with the intake process by completing initial paperwork as well as explaining the program concept.
Represent the agency in a professional manner.
Ensure or assist in the referral for all medical issues of clients.
Document all services provided in accordance with DMH/ CARF Standards.
Provide crisis intervention as necessary.
Facilitate group education as scheduled.

Certified Missouri Peer Specialists use the power of peers to support, encourage, and model recovery and resilience from mental illness in ways that are specific to the needs of each individual. A Peer Specialist can assist individuals who have a psychiatric disability to make independent choices and to take a pro-active role in their treatment.
A Peer Specialist should be present for Staffing with clients they will be working with.
Certified Missouri Peer Specialists shall follow the Certified Missouri Peer Specialist Code of Ethics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of case management and rehabilitation methods, principles and techniques as they relate to mental health services.

Knowledge of the methods and modalities as well as the legal requirements and court procedures related to treating mental illnesses and substance use discords.

Specifically work in Shelter Plus Care Housing Department to expedite housing placements by providing housing navigation assistance to new referrals and existing clients.
